Stupid Fucking Cocking Twats

I was walking to work this morning, and I saw at the top of Fargate a massive lorry. It was the kind of massive lorry that you see ploughing the highways in American movies.
"That must consume a lot of fuel." I thought.
The lorry was basically being used as a huge trailer carrying a huge video screen which was as long as the lorry and equally tall.
"That video screen must use a lot of power." I thought.
In front on the lorry was a man chisseling away at a 5 foot high block of ice.
"That must of taken a long time to freeze." I thought.
The ice was being chisseled into a globe. At the foot of the globe were the words "Carbon Planet".
"I hope they are not environmentalist, because that would be beyond hypocrasy." I thought.
I got to work and looked up Carbon Planet. They claim that they are trying to help reduce global warming by selling you carbon credits that allow you to offset your energy usage.
"Stupid fucking cocking twats." I thought.

I saw that yesterday lunchtime and my thoughts were exactly the same as yours.

They are still there this morning and the ice globe has not yet melted, which even fails to make the point the were tryingto make.

I might go up this lunch and ask them about the fuel efficiency of their truck.

I know it's not funny and you're clearly annoyed by this but when I read your post I just couldn't stop laughing - not just at the lunacy of it all - but because it's really really amusing. It's the kind of scene that would make a great comedy sketch. Madness.

The whole exercise caused around 2 tonnes of CO2 to be emitted actually. Offset of course.

I don't think the fact that you offset carbon dioxide should be an excuse for wantonly creating loads of it for pointless displays and advertising. You should still be environmentally friendly. The way to save the environment is by reducing waste, not by using it unnecessarily and using the fact that you offset it as an excuse. The whole display on Fargate just made me dislike that company, as it did all of you, it appears, so if it was supposed to be positive advertising, it definitely failed ...

I worry about this idea of offsetting. It strikes me very much like having your cake and eating it. i.e. if you've got the money, you don't have to have the conscience.

Excellent article in the Guardian today (Saturday 16 June - The Inconvenient Truth about the Carbon Offset Industry) on why carbon offsetting is completely unrealiable and basically completely rubbish. Interesting read and just confirms everything I already thought and which that company, Carbon Planet, with its ridiclously wasteful display on Fargate the other week, highlighted for me.
