How important is it that we don't become complacent?

I was watching BBC1 this morning. And there was this news piece on about Britian being one of the safest countries to drive in (as shown by the relatively low annual road death rate). They had some guy on from the, I don't know, Road Traffic Safety Association or some government-spawn like that - their only real responsibility is to safeguard the annual road death statistics and to fend off Dermot's acutely insightful line of questioning. So Dermot's probing question this morning was "Since Britian is relatively a safe country to drive in, should we become complacent?" Man, what a killer question. Talk about cutting through the bullshit. That Road Death Statistics guy was just squirming in his chair.
Dermot Murnaghan is a total idiot - please do include a piece about how much of an idiot journalist he is in your ongoing litany of topical things.

Happy to oblige Hat.
